WHAT WE DO
WE APPRECIATE ALL OUR MODEL A FORD HOBBY FRIENDS
The Autumn Trails Model A Club members meet once a month and go on periodic group tours. They exchange ideas, information and parts for admirers of the 1928-1931 Model "A" Ford car, and to aid them in their efforts to restore and preserve the car in its original likeness. The Club has many regional members who conduct year-round tours to historic sites, attend museum and entertainment venues, and travel the scenic roads of eastern Texas. The yearly Autumn Trails celebration is held in Winnsboro each weekend in October, with the Autumn Trails Antique Car Rally held the fourth weekend; now held for over 58 years, since 1963.

The Walton's "John-Boy" Model A Finds East Texas home
"Inspiration from a Classic TV Show Lives on in a Model A"
Story and photos by Denise Pounds
The Waltons and the Road to Our John-Boy Car
As a child of the late ’60s and early ’70s, like many American families, we were greatly influenced by a Depression-era family who made a weekly appearance on our television. Whether it was Thursday or Sunday evening, our family would gather around the TV to watch our favorite show—The Waltons.
Growing up in rural West Texas, our values and understanding of family roles were often shaped by what we saw on the screen. As the oldest child, I naturally identified with John-Boy Walton. Like him, I sometimes felt like a “mother hen,” looking out for my younger siblings and navigating the responsibilities that come with being the eldest. The Waltons wasn’t just entertainment; it was a guide on hospitality, love, friendship, faith, and even life’s harder lessons—loss, disagreements, poverty, caring for the abandoned, alcoholism, and disappointment.
That show left a lasting impact on me, and little did I know that decades later, it would connect me to a very special car—one that would bring a piece of The Waltons into my own life.
The Journey to Owning John-Boy’s Car
Once Chuck and I were married and started a family, The Waltons never strayed far from our hearts. Every Christmas Eve, we would gather around to watch our old VHS copy of The Homecoming: A Christmas Story, the pilot movie that started it all.
As the series went into syndication, we enjoyed watching episodes on demand and even built a backup DVD collection. Now, our grandkids have joined in as avid Waltons fans—a great legacy to pass on!
From MAFCA'S NEWSLETTER "THE FLYING QUAIL"
The Autumn Trails antique car parade in Winnsboro, Texas on the fourth Saturday of October each year is one of our favorite times. (Master Model A movie maker, the late Victor Duncan made one of his movies about Autumn Trails.) A couple of years ago, well I guess it was three since AT’s as shut down like everything else in 2020, we were able to get three of the four family Model A’s together for a photo. This is my all time favorite photo. Our ‘29 Murray Town Sedan, our son’s low mileage, unrestored ‘30 Murray Town Sedan and our daughter’s ‘31 steelback Victoria. (courtesy of John Icenhower)
